The chronograph is a complication that has been gaining in popularity over the past few years. In the Autumn issue, WOW Singapore celebrates the chronograph and invites you to join us.
Such a technical story with multiple components has been a mainstay of the Autumn issue since 2013 (with some degree of flexibility with regards to the meaning of the word “technical” there). Legacy is due to come out about a month or so after Autumn. We decided to split the difference. The Breguet Type XX was chosen as the Legacy cover, and it’s an important chronograph for this year.
The chronograph story will continue in Legacy and may also spill over into Festive. On the other hand, all the manufacture stories will now go into Legacy, even though they form the basis of WOW Singapore editor Ashok Soman’s Conversation with WOW Thailand Editor Ruckdee Chotjinda in the Autumn issue. The Legacy issue is the only one of WOW Singapore’s five issues that does not feature a Conversation. All of this is to say that both the Legacy issue and content in this one are part of a complex scheme. This note is also part of the cunning scheme. This is not a case of a headless mistake. Unhappily this is Internet and we will be hearing what you think through the comments.
“Important stories in watchmaking inevitably spill over across multiple issues,” says WOW Singapore Editor-in-Chief Ashok Soman. “Watchmaking cannot be understood as a seasonal affair; it is not even really annual, with developments spread over several years. WOW simply goes where the arrow of time points.”
Look out for a thematic visual unity in the Autumn issue. This will be evident from the cover spread featuring the bold Tissot Sideral and all the other spreads. We don’t try to align the features and covers, nor do we strive for it. While thematic threads might only be useful to tradespeople, they are surely something special when they emerge organically; the dive watch spread, for example, was first published in Men’s Folio (June/July issue). This issue, when combined with the chronographs section, could be our most colourful sporty one in ten years.
If it is conversations you hanker for, you will be spoilt for choice given that we have engaged with the top brass at Cartier, Bulgari, Panerai, IWC, Parmigiani Fleurier, Grand Seiko, A. Lange & Sohne, Roger Dubuis and Bell & Ross. Fortunately, you will find that all of the articles have been published, or they will be in time for Festive (see point about manufacturers) and Legacy. It is important to note that the Autumn edition of the magazine remains a work in process.
