Whisky Live Singapore is back! Prepare to have your whistles wet. Organised by La Maison Du Whisky, this grand celebration of exceptional tipples—once held at Andaz—will now grace a new scenic location—the Singapore Flyer. The two-day event (18-19 November) will feature a wide range of spirits, as well as masterclasses and other highlights. How can you enhance an alcohol festival that has already been a huge success? Arthur Morbois of La Maison du Whisky shared his thoughts on this and other topics.
What can we expect in 2023 from Whisky Live Singapore?
We anticipate a higher level of attendance, both from consumers and business partners. Our guests can also take part in more masterclasses, which will help them discover more about the spirits they love.
Whisky Live Singapore, with a focus on education, will feature a variety of booths and exhibits as well as masterclasses, tasting sessions and other activities. Over 800 industry professionals and 100 brands participating will offer unprecedented insight into the drinks business.
We have been informed that WLS will take place at the Singapore Flyer.
While this is our first time setting up Whisky Live Singapore 2023 at the Singapore Flyer, it will be a triumph as it will be our festival’s 12th edition. This move is expected to solidify the show’s position as the most authoritative spirits event in the region.
Is it your greatest challenge for the 2023 edition?
Our biggest challenge had been the logistics and planning of moving to the Singapore Flyer—a challenge we wholeheartedly embraced.
Whisky Live Singapore had to leave its comfort zone after 11 years of pioneering whiskies and fine spirit in Singapore and Southeast Asia. We want it to be firmly established as a fixture in the local, regional and international calendars.
Singapore Flyer opens doors that have never been opened before. We will turn any challenges into opportunities. We’ve also added Cocktail and Food Street next to the venue as the cherry on top. Whisky Live Singapore has a significant and prestigious association by hosting the event in such a prominent landmark.
Cocktails and food street?
Cocktail and Food Street takes full advantage of Singapore Flyer, as a venue. It’ll serve as an additional platform to engage with an anticipated attendance of over 3,000 visitors.
The theme of Whisky Live Paris inspired us to bring together bartenders and curated food partners. Non-ticketed and open to the general public, Cocktail and Food Street embodies what Whisky Live Singapore 2023’s move to the Singapore Flyer is. It is for all, regardless of level of interest.
What is your plan for the Singapore Flyer at the Whisky Live?
It’s almost as popular as Whisky Live Singapore! The move from Andaz Hotel to Singapore Flyer, where previous editions took place, has proved to be a huge success. It’s a fresh and original avenue to welcome the friends we’ve made over a decade. It’s to celebrate how Whisky Live Singapore has gone from strength to strength.
The association of Whisky live Singapore with the Singapore Flyer has a significant impact. The Singapore Flyer as the venue has the ability to make Whisky Live Singapore the most memorable edition yet. Imagine enjoying the view of the Singapore skyline with your friends and favorite brands. It can only be a breathtaking moment.
There are more masterclasses planned for Whisky Live Singapore.
The focus of each Whisky live Singapore event is to provide information and education on the whisky and spirit industry. Each edition offers a wonderful opportunity to connect with enthusiastic members of trade. That’s when the magic happens.
Whisky Live Singapore will host more than 20 masterclasses in 2023, which is a double the number of 2022. The masterclasses will take place in two meeting rooms. We hope that by increasing the number and quality of experts in our seminars, we can provide more valuable insight and spark passion for both public and trade guests.
Why is Singapore a great place to host Whisky Live?
Singaporeans are passionate about whisky, and the passion they show is really inspiring. Particularly when it comes to the enthusiasm they show for new expressions and labels, as well as their openness to learning about distillers, bottlings and bottlings. Also, their willingness to learn about the methods and techniques used in making such art.
Geographically, Singapore’s importance to the Southeast Asian region as a gateway cannot be overstated. It is a gateway for established brands to enter Asia through Whisky Live Singapore. Secondly, it provides a launchpad for the rapidly growing distilling culture of Singapore’s neighbours. It will help Cambodia, Australia and India to gain more prominence outside Asia.
Whisky Live Singapore provides the ideal platform for brands to meet with connoisseurs under one roof. It’s where important conversations and interactions occur, furthering the growth of the Southeast Asian spirits industry. Singapore is expected to play a more significant role as the years go by.
Who are the major sponsors of Whisky Live?
We’re proud to welcome Sukhinder Singh, Co-Founder of The Whisky Exchange—the United Kingdom’s number one specialist alcohol retailer. He’ll be here for the first time in a formal trade setting in Singapore.
Singh is also a co-founder of Elixir Distillers which owns independent bottle brands Elements of Islay Port Askaig Black Tot Rum. A week before Whisky Live Singapore 2023, he’ll give media sessions, speak at trade events and offer masterclasses to the public.
More luminaries such as Amrut’s Ashok Chokalingam; Velier CEO Luca Gargano; Foursquare’s Richard Seale; Neisson’s Grégory Vernant and Waterford Founder Mark Reynier will also be present. Whisky Live Singapore is all about public education, and there’s no better opportunity than together with the makers.
Registration and ticketing Whisky Live Singapore is now open. The VIP and Connoisseur tickets are still available.
