Each year the most important players in the watch industry gather in Geneva for the Watches & Wonders trade fair, the world’s largest and most important watch show. At the latest fair, 48 independent watchmakers and watch brands presented their newest watches to collectors, retailers, and the press. These timepieces will become available in luxury stores around the world throughout the year. These watches may be on long waiting lists, or only available to VIP customers. Here are just three of the many highlights from the seven-day event: RolexTag Heuer, Chopard and Tag Heuer.
Rolex Perpetual Day Date 36mm
Rolex enthusiasts are passionate people, and the new, surprising timepiece has given them many reasons to love, dislike, or argue about its merits.
Available in 18k white, yellow or Everose gold.Rolex’s proprietary gold alloyThe dial is the most noticeable change. Rather than showing the day of the week, the arc-shaped aperture at 12 o’clock displays an inspirational keyword: “Happy,” “Eternity,” “Gratitude,” “Peace,” “Faith,” “Love,” and “Hope.” The date window at 3 o’clock reveals one of 31 exclusive emojis in place of the date.
Even more apparent is the dial design, which reveals a colorful jigsaw puzzle created through the artisan technique of champlevé enameling. The jigsaw pieces of red, yellow, orange, green and turquoise are arranged in a jigsaw pattern on a background that is a single color. This adds intensity and depth to the design. The ten baguette-cuts sapphires are arranged in six different colors, according to the primary dial color, which on the Everose and yellow gold models is orange, and turquoise on the white and yellow gold versions.
This timepiece has all the features that you would expect of a Rolex. The watch is powered by an in-house caliber with a power reserve of 70 hours, has the Superlative Chronometer Certification, and comes in an Oyster case that is waterproof up to 100 meters.
The watch is completed with the Presidential bracelet—a three-piece link gold bracelet reserved exclusively for the Day-Date and the precious metal versions of the Rolex Datejust watches.
Chopard L.U.C. Heritage Chronograph 1963
The following is a list of the most popular ways to contact us Chopard L.U.C. Heritage Chronograph 1963 Watches and Wonders, a Swiss luxury brand, released many timepieces. The 42mm timepiece crafted of Chopard’s proprietary Lucent steel contains an English-green dial and L.U.C Caliber 03.07-L hand-wound movement with chronometer-certified precision. This limited edition of 25 pieces is available.
The dial is adorned with a sunburst pattern with the “L.U.C. CHOPARD” logo at 12 o’clock. The double-digit hour markers resemble a dashboard rev counter. The chronograph is indicated by the numbers 05-60.
The L.U.C Caliber 0307-L is the engine of the watch. It has a flyback function that allows for multiple timing operations to be performed without the need to reset the counters. It operates with a pusher at 4 o’clock. It uses a system with three pivoting levers and elastic arms, which are all activated using a single linear movement lever. It uses a vertical-clutch system for a more reliable starting of the chronograph second’s hand. Pulling out the crown resets the small seconds at 6 o’clock to zero and keeps it there. Chopard’s mechanical innovations have led to four invention patents.
A transparent back of the case with a gold-plated baseplate and bridges allows you to see the movement. The upper surface of the case is made from raw nickel silver to heighten the contrast.
TAG Heuer Carrera Plasma Diamant d’Avant-Garde 36mm with Pink Diamonds
Tag Heuer dedicated this year’s Watches & Wonders to the 60th anniversary of its Carrera watch, named after the Carrera Panamericana, a grueling five-day endurance auto race through Mexico that no longer exists.
This new timepiece is the flashier model of this year’s Carrera releases. This is a prototype, which will be made in small numbers by the end the year. The brand had already announced that they would only be using lab-grown gems in their jeweled timepieces. This is a creative example of the use of synthetic gems. The dial is covered with diamonds and is mounted in a 36mm white-gold casing. Twelve baguette diamonds are used as hour markers. Below the Carrera name at 12 o’clock is a pink lab-grown diamond shaped like the Tag Heuer shield. The watch brand calls it the “Diamant d’Avant-Garde” (Vanguard Diamond) shield. The crown features a pink, 1.3-carat lab-grown, unique-shaped diamond.
This three-hand watch with the date at 6 o’clock is powered by the TAG Heuer Caliber 7 automatic movement visible through a sapphire case back.
