We forget to take into account the surrounding environment when driving. We often forget the sounds, sights and roads that we can feel in our hands. Maserati MC20 Cielo embraces the sky as the convertible sister of the MC20 coupé. The MC20 Cielo Spyder has been added to the lineup and could be considered the MC20 that you want to buy due to its additional layer of involvement. The MC20 Cielo Spyder looks great and has carbon-fiber flying buttresses. It also retains the butterfly doors from the coupe. The shape has a natural organic look and the purity you would expect from an Italian convertible supercar. Cielo has the same carbon fiber body and exotic underpinnings, but a different glass roof. The roof is not a soft top, nor is it a metal one. It is made of a glass that measures 909 mm in length, 615mm wide and is more than half-a-square meter.
The MC20 Cielo also has the only fully retractable roof in its class. To operate, you simply need to press a button in the touchscreen central. It opens or closes in 12 seconds.
A second touch on another button changes the glass from transparent to opaque, or vice versa. Advanced Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology makes it possible for the change of transparency to take place in an instant; it works at virtually all temperatures, from -30°C to +85°C.
Acquamarina is a new colour that is part of Maserati Fuoriserie’s customisation program. Cielo, top down or up is gorgeous.
Of course, with top-down, you can hear the 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder twin-turbo, ‘Nettuno’ engine more. The V6 may not have the sound of a V8 with a barrel chest, but it has the energy of an Italian supercar.
Like most other cars today, the MC20 Cielo now has more digital controls. A new drive mode selection screen displays the drive mode set by the user, suspension calibration, and ESC (ESC Off) all on the small screen.
Maserati MC20 Cielo comes with five different driving modes. These are WET, CORSA, SPORT and GT. Each drive mode has its own color: wet is green, GT is blue, SPORT is red, CORSA is yellow and ESC OFF orange.
New additions to the Active Safety Systems include parking sensors, a reversing camera, and blindspot monitoring.
The interior is somewhat somber, but is covered in carbon fibre and comes with all of the usual amenities. While the boot space here isn’t much, ergonomically speaking it is not a problem.
You can enjoy the MC20 Cielo Spyder’s powertrain now. The price of this Italian supercar is well above $250,000.
