How often do homeowners give staircases and powder room the creative vision that they deserve? Lucinda Loya has given two such spaces the Lucinda Loya touch. The result is a visual feast for the eyes.

Lucinda’s couture interiors, which transform spaces into immersive experiences where art, history, nature, and modern design seamlessly intersect, were given fresh appreciation when she was tasked to transform a Grand Staircase and Powder Room at a New York Upper East Side townhouse.
The result is ‘Enchanted Roots’, a fusion of artistic flair and organic elegance that combine as part of a project at the annual Kips Bay New York House 2024. It also doubles as the nation’s most anticipated design event of the year.
Design Showcase
The Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club has been a beacon of interior design excellence for nearly half a century. It brings together designers from around the world to transform a Manhattan luxury home into an exhibition of fine furniture, art and technology.
The house at 125 East 65th Street was designed by in 1904. Charles Platt, is a stunning example of the magnificent townhouses the city’s gentry called home in the early 20th century. Several notable residents lived here, including publishing magnate Henry Luce.
Lucinda, her team, and the antiques and fine art they cleverly selected, were able to bring dramatic contradictions in texture, pattern, color, and style. A beautiful aesthetic weaves together a poetic sense and individuality.
On the Grand Staircase, visitors witness a stunning “Ripped” rug from LLI’s upcoming 2025 collection with The Rug Company. Flavor Paper created a custom wallpaper featuring a 19th century collage of etchings to create a uniform perspective.
Boundless Sophistication
The Shade Store used alpaca and custom cornices to create the large-scale draperies. Sandra Jordan’s luxurious fabrics.
The highly detailed design extends to the main powder room on the second floor dressed in Loya’s “Rift” wallpaper, a new design in collaboration with Flavor Paper, inspired by runway fashion and Lucinda’s vision of organic futurism.
Cosentino vanitys are designed to complement your bathroom. Kohler fixtures. Vaughan pendants, luxurious accessories, and custom monogrammed towels by E. Braun & Co. New York add a touch of refinement and sophistication.
Scott Eaton’s Perpetual Now! The video art blends seamlessly into Melt Mirrors, by Bower Studio, as well as a unique rug by Stark Carpet. Fiddlehead lights by Roll and Hill, which mirror the delicate unfolding of ferns leaves, are a perfect example of the innovative lighting that is at the heart of her designs.
The Grand Aperture by Allied Makers echoes the graceful passage of light and the sun’s shape, enhancing the space’s ambiance. You’ll notice that every piece is unique, from the alpaca drapery and bench, to the black piping of the bathroom vanity.
Innovative Approach
Lucinda commented: “Our design of the Grand Staircase and Powder Room celebrates the fusion of elegance and nature, providing an immersive experience that transports visitors into a realm of refined grandeur. We aimed to design spaces that told stories and supported the incredible mission Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.”
The vision for both spaces is indicative of Lucinda’s novel approach to elevating the ordinary into extraordinary masterpieces that continue to live in the memory. Her eye for subtlety and her attention to detail reflect the eclectic style of her high-end home.
