Lagoon, a world leader in pleasure cat manufacturing with more than 7,000 units produced, has made several improvements to its 43 model, scheduled for premiere at the Cannes Yachting festival from September 10-15.
Groupe Beneteau, with the Lagoon 42, has teamed up once more with its regular collaborators: VPLP Design in naval architecture, Patrick le Quement on the exterior, and Nauta Design on the interior. Lagoon 43 has an overall size of 45ft8in and a 25ft3in beam. It will replace the Lagoon 42 that sold over 1,000 units.
The mast is higher and has a jib that overlaps. This mast is located at the front of the saloon. A large cutaway is located at the aft of each bulwark. This allows guests to easily access the cockpit by opening a see through gate. The aft transoms sit just one level below the cockpit.
Patrick Le Quément said: “Access on board is facilitated by a cutout in the hull sides, designed to integrate harmoniously into the lines that frame the hull windows and create a previously unknown ease of movement. This new access is a combination of a functional feature and a more emotive touch. Its proximity to the ocean is its true beauty. It’s there, in the aft cockpit, that I can imagine myself daydreaming.”
The cockpit has an aft couch with an adjustable backrest so guests can face the ocean if they wish. Cushions can also be used to cover the davit, creating a daybed over the water.
On the port side, there is a large step that leads to the helm. Steps lead up to the flybridge with a C shaped lounge, a forward solar panel on the coachroof as well as an aft solar panel area. A C-shaped seating space is also integrated into the foredeck.
The ability to link the indoor and outdoor dining areas so that they can accommodate up to 12 people is arguably the most innovative feature. The cockpit and the main saloon have fixed starboard-side sofas and a dining table that can be joined when the saloon door slides away.
Nauta Design stated: “On the main deck, the sliding glass door and the dining/café area are designed in such a way as to allow you to arrange the dining table in various configurations: six seats in the interior, six seats in the exterior, or eight to 12 seats in a configuration we call ‘inside out’.
“This solution combines the sofas in the cockpit with those of the interior dining area, so you can enjoy the exterior and interior spaces combined as one large space and not have to compromise on the interior or exterior.”
The saloon has a large galley with an open L shape in the port forward corner. On each side, there are steps to the cabins. The new hull forms by VPLP offer generous interior volumes that have created larger berths and greater dimensions in every cabin compared to the 42, “offering unprecedented living space for a boat in this category”, according to Lagoon.
The four-cabin model offers two guest cabins with en-suite bathrooms in each hull. The three-cabin version includes a full-length owner’s cabin in the starboard hull, with the bed forward, a huge storage and desk area midships, and a large bathroom aft.
VPLP Design stated: “We took on the challenge of designing hulls that bring a real contribution to the living space in the cabins while conserving the boat’s seaworthy qualities. Lagoon customers had multiple emotions that we hoped to inspire.
“We wanted to offer large, modular living spaces, adaptable to various situations, whether cruising or at anchor, on a reasonably sized boat that’s easy to handle. The goal was also to bring continuous contact with the marine environment, with large windows in the hull, large glass panels, safe access to the sea, and enjoyable areas for relaxation.”
Lagoon 43 will debut in Cannes alongside the Lagoon 60 which was revealed privately in March during the Lagoon Exclusive Day in Bordeaux. The Lagoon 42, meanwhile, will continue production in a special anniversary version featuring a unique layout with four cabins and an extensive equipment list.
