Restomods can be found everywhere and are perhaps the best way to combine classic design with new engineering. KALMAR Automotive has delivered its first 7-97 in the USA. The KALMAR Classic 7-97 Canepa in California, a leading specialist in collector cars, is now offering the 7-97. KALMAR Automotive is all about bespoke automotive commissions and the 7-97 is exactly that being based on the 993-based C1 along with the donor car’s coupe shell benefiting from the removal of the donor 911’s rain gutters. A re-engineered decklid, in conjunction with KALMAR Automotive’s bonded glass solution, reduces lift, drag, and wind noise.
Designed to pay tribute to the Porsche 911 ST of the 1970s, the 7-97 uses an air-cooled 964 or 993 generation of 911 as its base, currently available in three different body styles – coupé, cabriolet or targa – plus the RS-R. Each 7-97 can be completely customizable both inside and out. Each 7-97 also features electric air conditioning and power steering, as well as lightweight carbon fiber panels.
The KALMAR 9-7 is known for its weight. It weighs close to 1150 Kg as rear-wheel drive. The C1 is just over 1215 Kg and weighs 2500 pounds. The C1 is ready for use with air conditioning and a hi-fi system. On demand, even lighter versions are also available. The 7-97C1 will be available in partnership with KALMAR Automotive The following are some examples of how to get started: CanepaBruce Canepa is the founder.
Its range-topping ‘Triple 4’ specification is led by a 4.0-litre engine producing 401 horsepower and 426 Nm of torque. Technical details include a 997 GT3 engine with a 4.0-litre capacity, drive-by wire individual throttle bodies, mechanical lifting systems, dual oil coolers, a Motec ECU (with OBDII Interface) and an air filter system. The other details include an adaptive active suspension system, a multilink rear axle, six-speed gearboxes, lightweight lithium batteries, and lightweight split three-piece rims. A traction control system featuring Sport mode is available, as well as a lightweight ceramic brake system and an axle lift system.
It is a throwback to the past, but it has all of the modern conveniences. Full leather interior, Recaro sport seats, twin airbags, and modern conveniences such as a hidden Bluetooth audio system and rain-sensing wipers are all standard. Even the car’s key has been designed especially for KALMAR Automotive as it incorporates buttons to open and close the front luggage compartment and rear deck lid. This electronic “frunk” release is just like the one found on the very latest Porsche 911s.
KALMAR Automotive is only going to build 12 7-97s in a calendar-year, with the price depending on specifications.
Canepa Group will act as KALMAR Automotive’s sole representative in North America, while it will also have dealers across Europe and Asia.
