The sound of singing and the glimmering sunlight on the water of a legendary river woke me up. Kids on paddle boards were serenading couples in Felucca boats as they attempted to sell flowers. On deck, I watched as wild birds perched on a railing observed me eating breakfast. At the same time, I saw fishermen in small, patched boats beating the water to get fish in their nets. As we sailed slowly upstream from Aswan to Luxor, we could hear the creaking of ropes.
Two legendary destinations, home to the cradle of civilisation, along with the fascinating sites in between, offer a vivid glimpse into Egypt’s rich history. We visited the Temple of Philae in Aswan. It was dedicated to Isis dating back to the third century BCE. Our Egyptologist guide brought the temple’s intricate stories to life, weaving tales within tales of ancient mythology.
While traveling towards Luxor we came across other notable landmarks, such as the Temples of Edfu and Kom Ombo, which each added new layers to our knowledge. The Karnak and Luxor Temples in Luxor further highlighted the artistry and power of ancient Egypt. Our exploration was a journey into the past.

The Oberoi Zahra’s 25 luxurious cabins are beautifully appointed. They feature elegant interiors and large windows with panoramic views of Nile. With its minimalist décor and king-size mattress, my cabin felt like a tranquil retreat. The marble and mosaic shower stall with its glass enclosure provided a spa experience. It was enhanced by breathtaking views of river.
Two spacious Luxury Suites at Zahra are the epitome of luxury. With separate living rooms, private terraces, and Jacuzzis, these suites offer a private haven to unwind and soak in the Nile’s beauty. The suite’s amenities, including high-definition LCD Smart televisions, high-speed internet, and a well-stocked minibar, ensured that every need was catered to.
The dining experience on board was a unique one. The chef de Cuisine and his team created an exquisite menu, which changed every day. The Nile was the perfect backdrop for each meal. After a long day of sightseeing I enjoyed the opportunity to relax at the infinity pool or enjoy a cocktail.

The Oberoi philae: A new standard in luxury
After my trip on The Oberoi Zahra I was eagerly awaiting to explore The Oberoi Philae. The Philae set the standard for Nile Cruises with its modern design and luxurious amenities.
There were 22 cabins, suites, and balconies on Philae, all with French windows opening out to the river. This allowed for uninterrupted views. Luxury Suite with heated whirlpool and private terrace was the height of indulgence. The suite’s spacious layout, elegant decor, and modern amenities created a sanctuary of comfort.
There was an array of Asian, Middle Eastern and Continental dishes on the menu at the main restaurant. The Upper Deck’s poolside restaurant provided a more casual setting for lunch and light snacks, perfect for a sunny afternoon. The bar and cigar lounge was the best place to spend the evenings. I enjoyed a cigar and watched a movie on the ship’s theatre.
The Philae’s amenities, including a 24-hour gym, Wi-Fi, and The Oberoi Spa, ensured that every aspect of my stay was met.
A Journey Through Time
The Oberoi Zahra as well as The Oberoi Philae offer meticulously planned routes between Luxor to Aswan. Each excursion featured Egyptologists with extensive knowledge who explained the significance and history of each site. Every stop, from the well-known temples to the lesser known but equally fascinating sites such as Nekhab was a step into the past.
The Oberoi Luxury Nile Cruisers are unique because they combine decadence with a historical immersion experience. Every moment of this trip was an example of the perfect blend between comfort, elegance and storytelling.
