Lagos was the perfect place to enjoy a hot cocktail of African contemporary design, topped off with a generous helping of craftsmanship. Fashion lexicon ranged from body-hugging cocktail dress to body-hugging tailoring, to elegant and comfortable loungewear. It is not necessary to mention that the fashion week was held in Lagos, Nigeria’s most populous and vibrant city. Street fashion was stunning, with celebrities and fashionistas showcasing statement pieces.
As for trends, it was a ‘frilling’ frenzie! On the runways frills were all the rage, along with daring cuts on dresses, jackets and shirts that showed off glowing skin. Unsurprisingly, colour – in particular bold, vibrant primary shades – were the undisputed stars of the shows. In addition, traditional African patterns and prints were prominently featured in most collections. This season’s theme was Woven Threads 4: The Test of Time The message is delivered in a variety of textures, including knits that are soft and artsy and crochets that are bold.
You are invited to take a trip of colour, magic threads and bold shapes as we show you the tapestry of diverse cultures that makes up the world. Unmistakable Lagos Fashion Week!
BEHIND THE SCENES & STREET STYLE
THE DESIGNERS
GETO
A collection full of joy was created by mixing body-hugging dresses with quirky tutus. The collection’s contemporary Afrocentric look was given a spring feel by the addition of oversized floral earrings in 3-D and flower-embellished heels.
LFJ
These sculptural dresses are the result of combining frills with pleats! These beautiful shapes created from pleated organza, chiffon and satin are ethereal, feminine and dreamy!
RENDOLL
The frill was in! And Rendoll celebrated this feminine design feature in style – and in many guises. The collection included a tropical color palette, modern silhouettes, and textured fabrics.
JEWEL JAMILA
Frilly hems and sleeves, as well as necklines and cuffs, create a collection that is feminine and theatrical. Dramatic fabrics and asymmetry were added by jewel-like fabrics.
KADIJU
These gorgeous outfits had plenty of drama: the hems on the skirts, the sleeves, and the tiered sleeve cuffs. As for their men’s offering – we just adore the regal purple of the super elegant lounge suit co-ord!
LULLA HOUSE
Frills are the star of the show at Lulla House’s Threads of continuity. This adorable plaid dress, with its cap sleeves and frilly hemline, is inspired by flamenco!
