The number of items hallmarked in the UK by four Assay Offices decreased 12.2% from August to September.
The total number of pieces hallmarked was 778,960 in August 2023. This is a drop of 107,786 compared to 886,746 from August 2022.
Gold hallmarking has decreased 11.2% since 364,652 gold pieces were hallmarked to 323,993.
The number of gold hallmarks increased by 19% for gold 916 but decreased by 17.7% for gold 375 compared to the previous year.
The number of silver pieces that were hallmarked decreased by 12.4%, from 485,663 to 425200.
Silver 925 saw a 12.4% decrease in the number of hallmarks.
The hallmarking of platinum fell by 18.3%, from 36,094 to 29,488. Palladium’s decrease was 12.2%, from 886 746 to 778 960.
Birmingham, Sheffield and London are the four UK Assay Offices.
