Laurent Ferrier showed in 2019 that the Grand Sport Tourbillon was a completely original design. This came at a time when the fine sports watch with an integrated bracelet started to emerge from the shadows cast by iconic 1970s designs. The new Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition is a tribute watch released to celebrate the 70th anniversary in Singapore of retailer Sincere Fine Watches. The Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition features a new dial, but retains the classic pebble shape of the Grand Sport Collection and the beautifully finished calibre LF619.001.
This tourbillon movement is distinguished by its caseback side tourbillon, and twin balance springs. Other brands have used a double spring in the past but Laurent Ferrier has been the only brand to produce this type of tourbillon watch. Why are double balance springs better than the single balance spring that is usually used? The springs’ ability to oscillate in opposite direction is what makes the difference. Like any other spring, balance springs (otherwise known as hairsprings) deform while oscillating or “breathing,” albeit very minimally. The second spring solves the issue. It is not without its downside, however, as this extra complexity is especially evident in calibres like LF 619.01 where a tourbillon is involved. With all the moving components of the tourbillon, power consumption is a major concern. Laurent Ferrier still manages to provide 80 hours of reserve power despite this extra complexity.

In the world of haute horlogerie, the Grand Sport Tourbillon is quite well known, especially since the Pursuit model won the Best Tourbillon watch prize at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) last year. Laurent Ferrier also was the first to embrace the fine sport elegance watch. The Grand Sports Tourbillon is the most beautifully finished tourbillon ever to grace a sports watch. This model, which was released in 2019, is the most exclusive among the latest fine sports wristwatches that have integrated bracelets. The Laurent Ferrier Grande Sport Tourbillon Jubilee Platinum Edition, limited to 12 pieces, maintains that distinction.
Let’s start with the dial. We’ll go over the case and movement of this Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition. This dial may have attracted your attention right away, and it looks even better in metal. Laurent Ferrier has other shades of green, but this dial is unique in many ways. Of course, you likely know that this is the only green dial of any sort in the Grand Sport collection, but this “petrol green” is a first for Laurent Ferrier and is “inspired by the waves of the South China Sea that borders Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia,” according to Sincere. The retailer has been a major player in these countries for most of its history. In relation to the waves, the dial pattern was created using traditional guilloche.

Laurent Ferrier Grand Sport Tourbillon Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition spec sheet confirms it has maintained all of its virtues including its 44mm dia. and 13.4mm in height. Laurent Ferrier’s 5N red gold case has a petrol-green Nubuck Leather strap lined with Alcantara. This is another Laurent Ferrier first. The Grand Sport case has a water resistance of 100 meters and its signature onion-shaped crown doesn’t detract from that. This is to show how unique the Grand Sport Tourbillon Sincere Platinum Jubilee Edition really is and what its transparent petrol green guilloche-dial hides.
Those who know will no doubt ask the owner to show them the movement side – it is truly a treat to break out the loupe and see if one can spot all the 30 internal angles of just the tourbillon cage, to say nothing of the other 187 components of calibre LF 619.01. This level of finish is exceptional and deserves closer inspection. The lucky owner of this timepiece will always be a talking point on his arm and should have a loupe at hand for the inevitable requests to admire it.
