Franck Muller, after introducing the Central Tourbillon Complication in 2021 (aptly named Grand Central Tourbillon), presents a new version with improved ergonomics and wearability for 2023: the Grand Central Tourbillon Flash Curvex CX36. In a moment, we will discuss the most eye-catching features. But first, it’s important to know that 36 refers to the maximum case width (36mm). The Curvex CX 36 has a different lug-to lug measurement than the Curvex CX 40 (52.65mm as opposed to 58.70mm) and so it is more comfortable for the 2023 Grand Central Tourbillon Flash Curvex CX 36. Flash Curvex CX 36 has a carbon composite case, so it’s very light and tough. This helps the watch to sit comfortably on the wrist.
The Grand Central Tourbillon Flash Curvex CX36 in these pictures is not small at all. The central tourbillon is the dominant feature of this watch. It completes a full rotation every 60 seconds. The MVT FM CX36T-CTR automatic calibre is a new one (the bigger version is MVT FM CX40T-CTR). However, the features remain unchanged, including the four-day reserve and micro-rotor off-centre. The 313, the number of components, and the beat rate at which the balance is beaten is unchanged. It is 18,000 vph (2.5Hz). The tourbillon is distinguished by the single bridge, which acts as a second indicator via the neon arrow that matches the model’s colour.
Curvex CX is so unique that it gives you the impression you are touching the central tourbillon. It’s a cool effect. You can make this out via the photos of the watch here, and it will certainly serve as a good conversation-starter. The design also means that the sapphire crystal extends right up the edge of the case at 12 and 6 o’clock. This aesthetic touch, even in its smaller version, is still impressive. It elongates the dial, and emphasizes the multiple curves. The watch may fit better on people with modest wrists, who previously might not have been able to wear the CX 40. The Grand Central Tourbillon Flash Curvex CX 36 watch is available in three colours: neon green and electric blue.
