For two decades Blancpain has always created a timepiece for Valentine’s Day and this time, the inspiration comes from the Ladybird Colors line. This special edition has a red colour palette, heart patterns, and diamonds. Every time, they have a new theme. From a heart-shaped case from 2009 to recent designs that occupy one attractive trait.
It’s red on the whole and the dial has a variety mother-of pearl features, including red Roman numerals. This requires five separate applications of colour. All the Ladybird Colors dials have a gold ring at 6 o’clock, set by hand with graduated diamonds. For the Valentine’s edition, the lower portion of the diamond set ring has been given the shape of a heart. There is also a Cupid’s arrow that adds to Valentine’s theme as it forms the large second hand, carrying a small red heart and a feather-shaped counterweight. The 1153 automatic caliber movement and the two mainsprings barrels provide a power reserve of four days.
The white gold case is decked out in 34.9 mm with diamonds set by hand on the bezel and the lugs. There are also more than 2 carats worth of diamonds added to the dial, the lugs, the buckle, and the bezel.
The workmanship is very good and the colors are bold. However, it is also done with taste and is restrained while still being drenched in glamour and pomp. It is one of the best ladies’ watches and maintains the tradition that Blancpain has been following for the past few years. The design may not be as radical as previous Blancpain examples, but the watch is still very elegant.
This special edition Valentine’s Day 2024 is limited to only 99 examples and is a perfect gift for Valentine’s Day for sure.
