Lauryn Bosstick is my friend and host of The Skinny Confidential. She’s guest posting today. She’s an expert on skincare routines and a big fan of ice facials (the topic of her post today). Today she’s sharing her tips for glowing skin!
It’s such a pleasure to be guest posting on Wellness Mama today. From the blog to the Wellnesse product line to Katie herself, I’ve been a big fan for years. Katie was featured on the HIM & HER Show A few years back, I spoke about how to maximize all aspects of your life: running a business and parenting. She’s been an incredible go-to for health and wellness topics for a while now.
My Story
Anyway, today I’m here to talk about the benefits of ice on your face. My name is Lauryn Bosstick and I’m the creator, founder, author, and podcast co-host behind The Skinny Confidential.
We launched a pink product line of preventative beauty products a few years back that can be seamlessly integrated into your daily routines. The very first product we launched was The Skinny Confidential Ice Roller and to this day, it’s one of our bestsellers.
All began when I was diagnosed with double jaw surgery It was a horrendous healing process. The recovery time was double what I thought it would be and left me swollen, looking like Sloth from The Goonies, and with a bit of an identity crisis if I’m being honest. I really mean it when I say that I did everything I could to reduce the swelling and speed up healing.
Ice rolling was the thing that I found to be most effective. I bought these little ice rolling devices from Amazon, one by one. Why? Because they broke and wouldn’t stay cold for very long at all.
I found that ice rolling was effective. Facial icing instantly brought down the redness and bloating and felt amazing. It helped me de-puff my lymph nodes and drain them through moderate massage.
After a few more years, my team and I created our own ice-roller, which was like the Rolls Royce. Think of a big handle made from silicone, an aluminum roller which stays cold forever, and a control thumbprint. This is something durable that won’t break after two weeks. Plus, like all TSC skincare products, it’s pretty, pink and you want it displayed on your vanity.
So, with that, let’s get into the benefits of skin icing and cold temperatures on your face.
The Ice Face Benefits
Reduces inflammation and puffiness
Ice is an anti-inflammatory natural that helps reduce swelling. It also helps with skin conditions. Say goodbye to pimples, rashes and blemishes and/or irritations by slapping some ice onto your face.
Reduces Pores Appearance
Everyone wants to have a baby-smooth complexion. Ice can reduce the appearance of pores, by constricting blood vessel and locking in products. Put some ice on the face for a smoother complexion.
Soothes and Calms Sensitive skin
Ice facials can be a great option for those with sensitive skin. They reduce redness, swelling, and inflammation. It’s also an excellent way to keep breakouts at bay for those with eczema or rosacea, which enhances blood circulation and skin health.
Plus, it’s been said that using ice therapy twice a day, for 20 minutes over 6 weeks can increase your skin’s thickness by up to 32%. By rubbing ice over your face, you can increase blood circulation. This improves skin health and reverses the aging process.
Helps Makeup Last Longer
Ice keeps the skin hydrated and fresh, which helps prepare your skin for makeup application. It allows for better product application, which means that your makeup will last longer.
Undereye bags can be reduced in appearance
Ice can be applied under the eye area to reduce puffiness. This will give the appearance of fewer bags. Reduce puffy eyes to look as if you slept 8 hours, even if only 5.
Gives you an instant facelift
Why bother with a facelift if you can use ice instead? Ice tightens and firms the skin to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It’s much better to spend money on retinol or peels that may have unwanted side effects than going to the dermatologist and spending money. Grab some ice and forget about thousands of dollars spent on plastic surgery.
How to use the SKINNY Confidential Ice Roller for an ice facial:
- Keep your rollers in the freezer or fridge, according to your preference.
- If opting for the freezer, roll it on your wrist approximately 8 times before using it on your face (we want to make sure it’s not too cold).
- Roll your neck and face in an upwards-outwards direction to drain lymph.
- Repeat as often as you’d like.
Ice rolling is something I do as soon as I get up. Well, almost. The first thing I do is scrape my teeth with the Wellnesse Copper Tongue Scraper. THEN, I ice roller. I also do it before my skincare and makeup routine.
ICE ROLLER TIPS:
- If you are traveling, keep your rollers cold by using the ice bucket provided at hotels (the wine buckets available at beach clubs also work well).
- Store your roller in our Sleeping Bag to keep it free from bacteria and your freezer’s frozen peas.
- You can also ice roll sore muscles following a hard workout.
- For cleaning your roller, grab a mild cleanser and a wet soft cloth. It is best to lather it up and then wipe it. Let it dry out on your counter.
And if you’re not into getting a roller just grab an ice cube and get to work on your face. Fill a bowl up with ice, water and some ice cubes and use that to give your skin a cold ice bath. All works.
