Laguna Art Museum Showcases Modern Alchemy
Award-winning jeweler Adam Neeley A splendid collection of works by the designer is now on display at the Laguna Art Museum, located in California. Modern Alchemy, the exhibition, showcases the fusion between art, nature and innovation. It also highlights the use of unique techniques, raw and faceted gemstones and minerals, in his work. “Adam Neeley’s Modern Alchemy is a testament to the transformative power of art. Neeley’s ability to blend traditional craftsmanship with his original SpectraGoldTM technique will take you on a journey where each piece becomes a unique expression of alchemical beauty. We are excited to present Modern Alchemy as the first-ever decorative arts show at Laguna Art Museum,” said Julie Perlin Lee, Executive Director, LAM.
“This exhibition features displays to excite audiences of all ages and share the magical world of the jewelry arts,” says the designer, noted for his groundbreaking SpectraGold technique, a never-before-seen process seamlessly transitioning one color of gold into another. It is achieved through a meticulous forging process, this technique produces a subtle gradient, or ombré of color — from yellow gold to white gold and beyond, elaborates Adam.
California-based designer, Stephen Avery, collaborates with notable lapidaries to create imaginative pieces that transcend current designs. They transport admirers into an imaginary world of dreams and fantasies inspired by the world and his limitless imagination. The LAM will host its first-ever decorative art show until July 29th, 2024. For details, about Modern Alchemy, visit lagunaartmuseum.org.
Crowning Glory
Kayla Rimmon Aril Jewels The designer of a new high jewelry headpiece has a great start in the world. Fuli Gemstones. With its dual-wearing option, the Lotus Tiara can be transformed into a pendant. Kayla and Chloë Woodmansterne, of Aril Jewels, worked closely with a China-based peridot mining company in making the design come to fruition. “The design celebrates peridot’s symbolism and connection with ancient Egypt,” says Kayla of the collaboration. The frame is set with marquise and pear-shaped Fuli peridots. They are accented by aquamarines and amethysts as well as pink tourmalines and white diamonds. The frame is made of platinum and 18k yellow gold. The lotus was, in ancient Egyptian time, a symbol for the sun and creation. It also symbolized rebirth because, while the flower closed at night and submerged underwater, it opened again at dawn.

Bubbling with Style
Audrey, a brand new collection from Melissa Kaye, plays up a newfound organic side to the designer’s aesthetic that previously leaned heavily on architectural forms. Each piece is composed of diamond-set spheres in graduated sizes, creating a soft, round silhouette that looks like bubbles floating on fingers, ears, necks, or cuffs. These pieces of enamel and diamonds, from the Audrey collection in 18k, are made for everyday use.
New Horizons
Perle Adler’s Horizon collection It is a tribute to New York City’s infinite lines, and the comforting feeling of grandeur. “Each stone represents a city block, so emerald-cuts imposed themselves. Setting all these emerald-cut stones in a straight line requires exceptional setting skills: the line can be distorted very easily if any of the stones are slightly off,” she says of the new offering that sports a very pared-down look. She has selected rubies, diamonds and sapphires to create the line. “Sapphires not only come in all colors of the rainbow, but they are perfect for daily wear with a hardness of 9 on Mohs’ scale, and diamonds add a little extra spark,” adds Perle. The Horizon collection comes in 18k rose gold, yellow gold, palladium and platinum.
