We are calling all beach and swimmingwear lovers! BOTEH The brand to be aware of is. Amelia Mather founded her label, which is a mix of colors, prints, and laid-back glamour. According to the company, its swimwear and beach essentials embrace traditional techniques, fluid shapes, and effervescent colors. We love these items for our summer wardrobe.
Think cute frill mini dresses to ankle-skimming one-shoulder numbers and the coolest of co-ords that’ll see you through the warmer months. The company also uses natural fabrics and has skilled artisans who finish many pieces by hand.
Amelia Mather, Founder and Director of Creative, tells us about her brand. From its aesthetics to the latest sunny collection, she explains how she wants to see her company evolve.
When did you decide to launch your own brand?
Sandy was my second child when I took my first ever real break. I was the Creative Director at Tigerlily for nearly 15 years. It was when Sandy was four months old that I decided to create my own brand. Maybe it was because I hadn’t slept enough or maybe the first time in my life, but the feeling of space and freedom was overwhelming. Since my early twenties, I have been designing over 60 collections on time. The urge to start my own business was something I never thought of before.
What would you say about its aesthetics?
Bohemian style, expertly crafted resort wear The swimwear is made of fabrics that are distinct but not overwhelming, and designed to last for many seasons.
Who is the Boteh Woman?
Boteh can be easily layered into your wardrobe to suit beach days, holidays and other relaxed occasions. Because of this, she is many different women, but those who are drawn to a patterned, undone & relaxed sensibility that comes with leisure-time travels and beach days.
What are your cornerstones as a company?
Unique textile prints preserve artisan craftsmanship, wearable design and thoughtful production.
Tell us more about the new collection.
Boteh begins with colour. It’s a natural progression from where we have been and what we are drawn to next. This season we have a unique palette of Melon, Sapo lime & Tobacco for our Alvita story which evokes a ‘60s Pucci feel for me, and the other was an unusual combination of Indigo and Saffron, paying homage to the earliest natural dyes that were used in textile production in France. After studying textiles, color and print are the first things that come to mind. The silhouettes follow, and since we want our designs to be timeless and wearable, they all come together.
What’s your favorite item at the moment? How do you style this piece?
I adore the one-shoulder silhouette, I find it timeless even though it’s more of a statement than we have attempted in the past. Style with or without a belt, a colorful handbag, and a statement wedge. I’m going to my local restaurant in Sydney/Coogee, Mimi’s, for fresh Australian seafood and cocktails.
What would you like to be the future of your company?
We would love our own retail shop, a place where we can bring Boteh’s vision to life. I have a lot of ideas for Boteh and the things that I collect from my travels. It would be great to showcase all the inspiration behind Boteh’s collections.
